Initial Challenge

29 REMARKABLE ENTRIES!

Of 29 remarkable entries (they just keep getting better every year!), the following 4 quilts were singled out for awards:

  • First Place:

    Biological Cantata by Benedicte Caneill

  • Second Place:

    Complicated Spirit by Carolyn Spiegel

  • Third Place:

    Traveling Girl by Terri Gavin

  • Fourth Place:

    Caritas Aeternum by Carol Auer

The quilts will be displayed at the Quilters’ Heritage show in Lancaster and then return in time for display in the Challenge exhibit at our guild’s show in May.

Margaret Phillips did a fabulous job running this Challenge and wanted to extend thanks to Terri Gavin, Andrea Winter, Jenny O’Shea, Denise Isherwood and Susie Andersen for their efforts in running this Challenge and to Deirdre Abbotts for taking pictures for the website.  Outstanding work, ladies!

Thanks to all who participated!

Challenge Rules

  • Use the initials of your first and last names as the initials of the quilt title.
  • The quilt should reflect some aspect of your personality.
For example, CL could be Chocolate Lover, or ST could be School Teacher.
  • The quilt must be 18" wide and 22" long.
  • It must have three layers and be quilted.

2009 Guild Challenge

Got ideas???? Or just want to head a really fun committee?
Then submit an idea for next year’s NSQG Challenge!

How to begin:

  • Any guild member can submit a proposal. It should include a topic idea with a
name for the Challenge, the rules for the Challenge, and the judging categories
for which ribbons will be awarded.
  • Write down these ideas and submit your proposal to Janis Tobias, Special Events
Chairperson (paper or emailed proposals are fine!).

The next steps:

  • Janis will present the proposals to the board (without the submitters' names) and
the author of the winning idea will be selected as next year's Challenge Coordinator.
  • The Coordinator gathers a committee of about 5-7 people to help collect Challenge entries, hang the quilts at the Feb. 2009 meeting, count the ballots, and award the ribbons. The committee also hangs the quilts on Friday night before the NSQG show in May.

Please contact me if you have any questions at all. I'd like to present all proposals at the April board meeting so get your idea in by the end of March!
