SUMMARY:Quilt Festival
DESCRIPTION:In lieu of a World of Quilts Show this year\, we will be having a Quilt Festival! \nThis event will take place at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Kisco\non Friday and Saturday\, October 9th and 10th\, 2026 (10am-4pm) and will be open to the general public for a nominal fee. \nThe Board is very excited about being able to offer our members such a beautiful venue to show off our beautiful quilts!  So while we are not having the World of Quilts Show this year\, we are having a FESTIVAL to celebrate our creations. \nWe will be able to display about 80 quilts in the lovely Parish Hall at the Church.  We will also have a special guild Raffle Quilt\, some Comfort Quilts for sale\, and ‘Easy-Peasy’ mini-quilts for sale (directions to follow in a separate email.  You’re gonna love this!).  At the Festival\, there will be Viewer’s Choice Awards – First\, Second\, Third\, and Honorable Mention and member docents to talk about various quilting techniques\, use of color\, etc.  We are not be able to include categories\, judging\, special displays\, library books for sale\, food\, or vendors. \nOnly one quilt per member will be accepted unless we fail to reach our goal of 80 quilts.  Because of the limited space\, only 4-6 larger quilts can be accepted with a maximum size of 90” x 90”.  The rest will be quilts no wider than 40”.  Online registration will be available starting July 1st;  an email with registration details will be sent as we get closer to July 1st. \nWe have a Quilt Festival Committee of 15 but we need volunteers!  There will be a volunteer signup sheet at the sign-in table at this Wednesday’s guild meeting.  Volunteers are needed to help with set-up on Thursday\, October 8th\, at take-down at the end of the Festival on Saturday\, and with various sitting jobs during the Festival days. \nAs a bonus (and another way to draw people into our Festival)\, there will be tours of the building which church parishioners will handle.  St. Mark’s was designed by a well-known architect\, Bertram Goodhue\, in the early 1900’s with several Tiffany windows and is on the National Register of Historic Places. \nNancy Mirman\, Festival Coordinator \nFor those members who would like to contribute to the Easy-Peasy quilt sale at the Festival\, here are the instructions and some sample pictures.  Contact Ashley Mackey with any questions. \n \nEasy-Peasy Quilt Directions \n It’s an 8” by 10” mini-quilt to donate to our upcoming Quilt Festival!\nYou might have a hard time making just one!\n— \n\nCut a center focus rectangle 4½” by 6½”.\nSew an inner border:\n\nCut 2 strips 1” by 6½” and sew onto the long sides of rectangle and press.\nCut 2 strips 1” by 5½” and sew onto the short sides of rectangle and press.\n\n\nSew an outer border:\n\nCut 2 strips 2” by 7½” and sew onto the long sides of rectangle and press.\nCut 2 strips 2” by 8½” and sew onto short sides of rectangle and press.\n\n\nQuilt and embellish as desired.\nTrim to 8” x 10” (***Note: if finishing with facing or enveloping\, add a seam allowance as needed).\nFinish the edges by binding\, facing\, enveloping\, or fancy stitching – whatever makes sense for your quilt.\nSew a sleeve or other hanging treatment on the back\, your choice.
