Add a collar\, hood\, or keep it simple. Both full and hip-length coats can have pockets. You can also select a button\, zipper\, or leave the coat open. \nFor the jacket workshop\, the pattern comes in short\, medium\, and long lengths—though most people have been picking the long one. You can also choose a hoody\, a collar\, or a plain neckline.  I will supply ” Pattern Ease” which helps trace pattern elements.\n\nA $45.00 materials fee is required\, to be paid directly to Maria; this covers both the pattern and the pattern ease for tracing.\nPatterns will be available for purchase in September and October. Please do not cut your pattern. \n\nFabric Requirements: \nOne yard for binding\nQuilt – The following are various options for creating your long and hip-length coat. If making the cropped coat check with me. \n\nFor upcycling\, a quilt sized 72 x 96 or 87 x 90 works best.\nAn unfinished 72 x 96 or 87 x 90 quilt top\, now is your chance to quilt it (note: these sizes are an approximation but bigger is always better).\nKantha Cloth may be substituted for a quilt\, this will be very soft since it doesn’t have batting in-between.\nYou can find quilts on eBay\, thrift shops and Facebook Market Place.\nTo make a quilt\, you will need the following.\n2½ yard for the front\n2½ yard for the back\nFull size batting\nOR\nOne 40 x 40 piece for the back\nTwo 20 x 40 pieces for the front\nTwo 21 x 21 pieces for the sleeves\nTwo 14 x 14 squares for the hood (if making the hood)\nOne piece 5 wide x 18 long for the collar (if making the collar)\nTwo 10 x 10 squares for the pockets\n\nTools Required: \n\nSewing machine in working order. If you have a Bernina\, bring your 2A foot to overlock\, ¼ inch foot and a 10 foot.  Everyone else bring your zig zag foot\, ¼ inch foot and a general sewing foot.\nRotary cutter with a new blade\nSharp Scissors\nStraight Pins\nWonder clips\nBy Annie’s Stiletto and Pressing Tool (highly recommended)\nBlack or blue Sharpie to trace your pattern\nNeutral color sewing thread for piecing\nDecorative thread for the binding\nDouble sided basting tape for zipper only\nSeam Ripper\nSeparating Zipper – will discuss zipper in class\n\nHomework:  \n\nTrace your coat size on the pattern ease and cut it out. We’ll cut the coat in class.\n*When tracing\, focus on all markings—especially the dots on the pockets and jacket sides\, as these are key for this pattern.\nWash quilt before coming to class\, this is for shrinking purposes only.\nPlease come to class with all materials and ready to work!

Leave behind previous notions of stitching in the ditch or overall quilting. \nAPPROACH MACHINE QUILTING IN AN IMPROV STYLE\, WITH A LITTLE PLANNING! \n6 hour workshop: With a simple supply list and a little pre-prep of 3 – 6 small quilt sandwiches\, you will explore new ways to approach walking foot machine quilting. I will also show you how to gusset join your workshop samples into a finished mini quilt! \n\nPREPARE IN ADVANCE 3 – 6 small quilt sandwiches from provided designs: these will be the canvases for your machine quilting artistry!\n\n\nTAKE INSPIRATION from the piecing to stitch an initial quilting motif.\nOVERLAY a new machine quilting motif\, using a different thread color with new positioning\, and allowing the motifs to overlap.\nLAYER additional modern motifs using a third and fourth thread color to add more texture and depth. Ramp up the texture with some big stitch hand quilting.\n\nYou will leave the workshop with concrete skills for a modern\, layered approach to walking foot quilting. Bring your prepared quilt sandwiches and your spirit for quilting adventure! I will provide full hands-on instructions in class. This is an all-levels workshop. Basic knowledge of walking foot machine quilting is helpful\, but not necessary. We will learn together!

It takes the guesswork out of coordinating your fabric colors. \nSupply List \n\n3 in 1 Tool from C&T Publishing (Can be purchased on Amazon)\nDouble sided fusible – I prefer Steam a Seam lite but feel free to use what you like best\nA backing fabric the size you would like your finished wall hanging to be.  I made mine 12″ x 30″.\nBatting\nIron and ironing mat or board.\nAn array of light\, medium and dark fabrics you choose\, guided by the  3 in 1 card you purchase from Amazon. \nSewing machine\nPins\nScissors – I like the Karen Buckley scissors for cutting out the pieces but you may bring whatever you have.\nFreezer paper\n\nAfter the lecture presentation at the Guild meeting you will have a better idea of the fabrics you will need to bring for class once you understand how the 3 in 1 tool can help you choose fabrics for a quilt.
