She pieces her quilts without a definitive image of what the finished piece will look like. Marge starts with a general concept and color palette then sees where she is led. Marge made her first quilt over twenty-five years ago for friends expecting their first child. At that time\, Marge didn’t know that quilting would become her passion and profession. \nMarge has received numerous awards for her quilts\, including “Best Machine Quilting” at QuiltCon 2019 and “Best Sewing Machine Workmanship Award – Modern” at the 2019 Pacific International Quilt Festival. Marge shares the tradition of quilting with her students. She teaches in person and online in her Rockland\, MA\, studio\, and travels for in-person workshops throughout the United States.

In the 6-hour class\, students will complete several blocks and know the options of how to combine blocks together. This is an incredibly versatile and innovative technique with many exciting variations to explore. \nSupply List \nSupply List for Modern Dresden Plate Blocks Fabric: • Background fabric (I used white but it can be any color) – 3 ½ yards • Fabric for the colored parts of the wedges : o 1/3 yard of three different fabrics o 1/8 yard (5 ½” inches wide x WOF) of six different fabrics o OR ¾ yard of one fabric **Precut BEFORE class**: From background fabric cut: • One 7 1/2” x width of fabric (WOF) strip • One 6 1/2” x width of fabric (WOF) strip • One 5 1/5” x width of fabric (WOF) strip From wedge fabric cut: • One 5 1/2” x width of fabric (WOF) strip • One 4 1/2” x width of fabric (WOF) strip • One 3 1/2” x width of fabric (WOF) strip *This could from one fabric OR three different fabrics Other Supplies: o Sewing machine and accessories (power cord\, foot pedal\, extension table [if you have one] AND manual) o Rotary cutter with a new blade o Cutting mat (18”x 24’’) o A clear acrylic square ruler (12 ½” square) used to square blocks o Basic sewing kit (scissors\, seam ripper\, straight pins) o Best Press or Magic spray starch o Thread in a neutral cotton o Olfa 6”x 24” ruler to cut the fabric and the wedges. If you have this ruler\, that is great! IF NOT\, I will have the ruler for purchase in class. **It MUST be this brand and length.* Thoughts/Tips in Selecting Fabric for Modern Dresden Plate If it helps in choosing your fabrics\, we will be making a variety of strip sets with a background fabric (in “Burst” this is the white fabric) and your other fabrics (this fabric will be the colored part of the wedge). Some strip sets will have a wide strip of background with a narrower strip of the wedge fabric. Other strip sets will have the reverse. This gives the varied length of the wedges in the blocks. I like to work with solid-colored cotton fabrics\, but really any cotton fabric that “reads” solid or has a slight print would work as well. Large scale prints don’t always highlight this technique but narrow striped fabrics or graphic printed fabrics look quite interesting mixed with the solid fabrics. **Please don’t hesitate to email me at margetuckerquilts@gmail.com if you have any questions on the supply list.**

After studying fashion design and spending a short time in the industry\, I took a detour and worked as a bookkeeper for 15 years. Later\, I married\, moved to the suburbs\, and raised two children as a stay-at-home mom. Eventually\, I found my way back to sewing and discovered art quilting. Before long that creative spark grew into a passion which led to teaching. Since then\, I’ve won about 50 awards\, including a Judge’s Choice\, a sewing machine\, and cash prizes. My work has been published twice\, and in November 2025\, I had a one-woman show at the prestigious Dwight Englewood School. Today\, I work and teach at The Quilt Tree in Nyack\, New York\, one of the few remaining quilt shops in the region.

You can also select a button\, zipper\, or leave the coat open. \nA $45.00 materials fee is required\, to be paid directly to Maria; this covers both the pattern and the pattern ease for tracing.\nPatterns will be available for purchase in September and October. Please do not cut your pattern. \nFabric Requirements: \n\n1 yard for binding\nQuilt\n\nThe following are various options available for creating your long coat and hip-length. She published her third book\, African Accents On The Go! Designing Accessories with Cultural Style in June 2007\, and in 2011 began publishing FABRIGASM magazine\, for Lovers of African Textiles. \nLisa offers classes and events internationally\, and travels to Ghana to source artists\, fabrics and materials. She also organizes and hosts SewJourns to Ghana\, Colorado\, New Mexico and other fun destinations.\, serving a readership of over 450\,000 at the time. \nShe opened CE’s first studio location in downtown Rahway\, NJ in December 2017.  The space combines retail and event space for classes and private parties. \nLisa’s obsession with African textiles began in 1986\, during a trip to Senegal\, West Africa.  In addition to sewing and fabric collecting\, she is a part-time vegetarian whose other interests include travel\, entertaining\, holistic health\, and yoga.
