Quilts Inspired By Books

It is not too late to do your guild challenge piece, “Quilts Inspired by Books”.  Do not think that you have to design a complicated art piece for this challenge.  Think of traditional patterns that might lend themselves to a book, i.e.using log cabin blocks for “Little House on the Prairie”.  All of the guidelines are listed under the “Program” section of the website.  The quilts are due at the January meeting, so sew quickly.  Voting will be at the Feb. meeting.  Hope to see LOTS of amazing entries!

Super Saturday

Super Saturday will be held Saturday February 18, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown, 2880 Crompond Road, Yorktown, NY.

What is Super Saturday? A day spent with friends, making friends and learning from our fellow guild members. Yes, this day is about us and sharing our talents with one another.

Arrival time for set-up begins at 8:30 am with the creative process starting at 9:00 am.  At noon we will gather in the fellowship hall for a catered lunch and conversation with friends. After lunch we will head for the finish line and participants will gather at 3:00pm for show and share.  Departure is scheduled for 3:30 pm but not before a quick pack-up and clean-up of those sticky strings and pointed pins. Please plan to join us. Go to Program, Special Events from the Home page of the website for a list of the classes being offered.

Contact Patti Calautti or Caryl Castellion for questions or enrollment.

Lecture

Our December lecture will be by Lisa Shepard Stewart.  Her lecture is a lovely combination of showing her wonderful African fabric collection and many different ways to use them.  She has published three books, writes for many fabric related subjects, teaches and lectures around the world.  Her visit should be an exciting, informational lecture.

Programs

Check out the “Winter Programs” section on the home page to see the fun we are planning for January and February.

SIGs

The Domestic Machine Quilting SIG will be meeting before the December guild meeting at 5:45pm in the back of the cafeteria.  Please bring any machine quilting projects you are working on to share and/or discuss with the group.  We did not have any volunteers for December for a specific topic so Helen will discuss some things she learned from the Cindy Needham Craftsy course.

The Art Quilters will be meeting at 5:45pm at the back of the cafeteria before the December Guild Meeting. We have outgrown our space in the teacher’s lounge and this location should give us more room.  Don’t forget to bring in your “play exercises” for the month. December is washes, drawing or painting on fabric, and/or beads. Also, bring your Show and Tell.

The Landscape SIG will meet Saturday, December 3rd from 1pm to 3pm at the Astoria Bank in Somers.

The Paper Piecing SIG will meet Saturday, December 17th from 10am to 1pm at Pooah’s Home in Ossining.  The group will continue working on “African Violets.”

Guild Challenge

I hope everyone has been busy reading and quilting over the summer.  Hopefully, some of you have even started the Guild Challenge, Quilts Inspired by Books.  You can use the general story line, setting or scene in the book, something that symbolizes the book, or your interpretation of a book.  It might be fun to do this with a friend, both doing your own interpretation of the same book!  Whatever you chose, remember that the deadline is earlier this year –  the quilt is due in December.  All of the guidelines and size requirements are available on the website.  If you have questions, please contact Carol Weber or Linda Stern.
