All NSQG members are expected to contribute at least two(2) volunteer hours to support our annual Quilt Show. Here are brief job descriptions. For further information or to sign up, please contact [email protected]
Before the Show
Saturday before the Show ~ Quilt Drop-Off ~ 1-4pm: Examine quilts to make sure they are properly prepared for the show (clean, no odor, sleeve and number attached, etc.), check in quilts and hand out Quilt Claim Cards. Some sitting, some carrying.
Wednesday before the Show ~ Judging Day: Assist by holding up quilts, transcribing the comments made by professional judges, and then folding and packing up quilts. A chance to see the quilts first, up close and personal! Some sitting, some carrying.
Friday before the show ~ Drape Hanging: Frames are set up by WCSU. However, we need to hang our muslin drapes on the pipes. Work involves lifting drapes and climbing ladders. Husbands, sons, daughters, and friends are surely welcome.
Friday before the show ~ Quilt Hanging: An approximately three-hour job involving climbing ladders, holding and carrying sometimes heavy quilts.
At the Show
Admissions: Assist at ticket booth and handing out Quilt Show Booklets. Direct guests to quilts, vendors, bathrooms. Mostly a sit down job. First impressions are the most lasting….
Information Desk: Provide information on show activities and answer questions from guests. Make announcements over the PA system. Take in and return items at the package drop-off and pick-up table. Mostly a sit down job.
Raffle and Show Pin Sales: Help sell charity quilt raffle tickets. Collect money for the tickets and answer questions about the charity. Also help sell our unique Show Pin. Sit down job.
Silent Auction: Assist at table as guests bid on Silent Auction quilts. Sit down job except for the final shift when quilts are taken down and distributed.
Library and Comfort Quilts Assistant: Guests buy books and magazines at the Library tables (standing,sorting) quilt kits at the Comfort Quilt tables (sitting).
Lecture Assistant: Two volunteers are needed for each guest lecturer to hold up quilts, pass around quilts or help sell books before/after the lecture. Standing and walking job.
Quilt Watcher *White Glove*: During the show we need quilt watchers in the gym that wear “white gloves” to turn quilts over for guests to see the back of the quilts. Time-slots are one-hour shifts. Standing and walking job. White gloves provided.
After the Show
Sunday end of show ~ Quilt Take-down: Help remove quilts in an orderly manner, again involves climbing and carrying sometimes heavy quilts.
Sunday end of show ~ Drape Take-down: Muslin drapes are removed from the pipes and folded for storage. Work involves lifting drapes and climbing ladders. Husbands, sons, daughters, and friends are surely welcome.
Sunday end of show ~ Quilt Return: Help return quilts to their owners, match quilt claim cards with quilts and hand out judges’ comments. Standing/sitting/walking job.
Sunday end of show ~ Final cleanup: Help collect and put away the final equipment from the show. Carrying/walking job, last to leave.
