CQ Summer Project Raffle Display

We received an outpouring of email to let us know how happy you were that Kennedy Catholic has invited us to continue to have our meetings at the school.  There was definitely a collective sigh of relief!

A couple of weeks ago Althea dropped off three lovely quilts , made by Guild members, as our contribution to Kennedy Catholic’s Auction.  It is a big fundraiser for the school and is being held on Saturday, November 16, 2019, from 6:00p.m. to 10p.m. You can learn more about their ‘Winter Wonderland’ Auction here.

Being able to stay in our “home” at Kennedy also means that we are no longer distracted searching for new space and we can now focus on what we love to do!

One of the wonderful benefits of Guild membership is to be able to learn from other members and be inspired by their ideas:  Super Saturday, demos, Show and Tell and our SIGs are all opportunities to hone our skills and get the creative juices flowing.  We are now hoping to expand our Facebook and Instagram accounts to share what we are doing and working on or experimenting with.  If you have anything of interest to offer — be it a particular quilting technique that would make a good demo or simply photographs of quilt shows you have attended or quilts, finished or in progress, we hope that you will enrich the Guild by stepping forward to share your knowledge and experiences and photos.

Thank you to all of you who made our Comfort Quilt summer challenge raffle such a success!  Comfort Quilts raised $300 which will help purchase materials for the program.

Our meeting this month is Tuesday, November 19.  This month we hold the Boutique which will start at 5:30 p.m., so please come early and support our member vendors as well as pick up some great bargains from Comfort Quilts.  Our program will be given by Charlie Hietala who will be presenting on thread painting which should be a great introduction for many of us on a way to add to our quilting toolbox. There are still 4 spots available for the workshop if you would like to attend.

We also hope to be rolling out a brand new audio system in the cafeteria so we are looking forward to hearing how that’s working!!!

Holiday Boutique-Julie Long

Starts at 5:30!

Come early to shop at our Holiday Boutique, starting at 5:30! Non-members are welcome to shop as well, the guest fee is waived for the boutique meeting.

Comfort Quilts has lots of Holiday quilt kits, great fabric deals and gently used quilting notions and there will be a selection of hand-made items from members!

Lancaster Trip-Patricia Loquet

Sign ups start at the November meeting for our trip to the AQS Lancaster Quilt Show! This is likely to be our last Lancaster trip due to the AQS schedule change so don’t miss out!

The cost of this year’s trip is $175 per person.  This includes bus ride, hotel (double occupancy) and the meal at Plain and Fancy on Friday evening, as well as entry to the AQS show.

Sign ups will begin in November and last through the January meeting.

Members whose last names begin with the letters G, H, and I are asked to bring in a snack for our refreshment table.  Cut-up fruit, nuts, cheese, chips and dip, as well as baked goodies are always welcome.

No Table Raffle this meeting but  bring your snacks a bit early so you can enjoy them while shopping at our Holiday Boutique starting at 5:30.

NOVEMBER 20 –  Sign up for Charlie Hietala’s workshop on Thread Painting. We will be working on fabric Charlie hand dyes. The thread painting can be done on a featherweight machine or a machine that can drop feed dogs. Charlie will be vending the cover plate for featherweights along with some of her fabrics the night of the lecture.
 
JANUARY 25 – This Saturday workshop on curved piecing for modern quilts will be run by Sheri Cifaldi-Morrill who is our December speaker. Check out her website:  https://www.wholecirclestudio.com.

I will be taking sign ups for all Workshops.  The member fee is $50.00 (non-member $70.00). Please bring a check or cash to pay for any workshops at the meeting and stop by the program table with any questions you might have.

Quilt Show - May 2-3, 2020 - Julie Long and Narci Medina

– Show off your quilt at our 2020 Quilt Show.  Beginner, intermediate or advanced, the quilt you create is a work of art!  Let’s have every member of our Guild have one quilt in the quilt show this year.  Maybe TWO !!!!!

– If your small group or SIG would like to have a Special Exhibit in the 2020 Quilt Show please email Patti Calautti (her email address is in the membership booklet).  All participants must let Patti know by 1/1/20.  See guidelines here.

– Quilt Show Committee Openings – Team up with a friend!
Quilt Handler – Coordinates with the Quilt Display Committee and Quilt Registration for the handling and transport of quilts throughout quilt drop-off, judging, and hanging at the show.  Supervision includes maintaining the correct numerical order of the quilts after registration, packing of quilts and unpacking quilts for judging, and repacking the quilts for transport to the college.
Note-there is already a group of experienced Guild members who are part of this sub-committee.

Buses – Must attend Quilt Show on Saturday to meet buses.  Communicate with guilds in the tri-state area to encourage groups to our show.  A list of guilds and pre-written e-mails are available.  Communication is through e-mail.  Buses get a discount on ticket prices and receive a welcome basket.  We are trying to increase the number of buses to the 2020 Quilt Show.

Challenge Quilts-April Russell

For those who would like their 2019 Challenge Quilt from last year to be considered for inclusion in NSQG’s entry (8 quilts needed) to the 2020 AQS Grand Rapids ‘Ultimate Guild Challenge’ Display, below are the guidelines from our 2019 Ruby challenge to refresh your memory. 
You must have adhered strictly to our guidelines or your quilt will not meet the AQS guidelines.

NSQG 2019 Challenge Guidelines – Our Quilt Show will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2019!  Tradition states that Ruby is the gift!   So, let’s celebrate our 40th with some beautiful Flowers to display at the Show.

FORMAT:

  • Quilt project must consist of 3 layers, back, top and batting all stitched together and quilted by hand or machine and created by one maker.
  • You must use the Ruby challenge fabric provided to you by the Guild. You will receive a regular 1/4 yard of fabric.
  • You may add as many additional fabric colors as you would like to enhance the Ruby challenge fabric.
  • You may use your choice of threads or embellishments.
  • The quilt can be constructed in any form you wish: paper piecing, traditional pattern, appliqué or your own design.
  • Don’t forget the sleeve for hanging and a label.
  • The quilt size must be 23 inches wide. The length can be up to 30 inches long but, that is the maximum size it can be.
