President’s Message – 06/26

2026-06-01T08:05:46-04:00President's Message|

I find it hard to believe that Mary and I have been your co presidents for a year! While I must admit that I was unsure of how I would fill the shoes of past presidents of this wonderful guild, I have really enjoyed every minute of it!

We’ve had some ups and downs this year such as the decision to cancel our annual quilt show in May, but we put together a task force that has provided us with options which include our first Festival of Quilts, to be held October 9th and 10th, 2026. In addition, we have been presented with 2 viable locations for our next World of Quilts in 2027. All we need to proceed with the details is a Quilt Show Chairperson!

As you all know, we cannot move forward with our plans without the FULL participation of our guild members. There are many ways to help – some big and some small- so I ask you all to review the options that will be presented to you in detail in the near future. As a long time member, I have always enjoyed the satisfaction that comes with hosting a show that displays the creative talents of this guild and I hope you will join in as well!

Thank you to all of our Committee Heads for your hard work this past year and for providing us with so many options to travel to the AQS show, quilt together, learn from an amazing slate of instructors, present our Raffle recipient with a generous donation, and shop for the prettiest ugly fabrics we have ever had!

The voting for next year’s elected officers will be at our June Salad Supper meeting and I look forward to seeing you all there!

JoAnne Hochstein & Mary Rosetti, president@northernstarquilters.com

President’s Message – 05/26

2026-05-25T13:26:31-04:00President's Message|

Happy Spring — hopefully…finally!

It is hard to believe we only have two meetings left until the end of another wonderful Guild year.  We certainly had quite a bit going on this year.

A big thank you to Rona Spar for putting together a wonderful bus trip to the ASQ show in Hartford. I think we can safely say a great time was had by all at the show and on the bus. We also want to thank Joanne Visovsky for putting together another wonderful sit and sew. Both of these events offer ways for members to not only meet, but to learn from each other.

At the May meeting the recommended slate of officers for the 26-27 year will be presented to membership.  Nominations for all positions will also be taken from the floor.  Please do not hesitate to nominate anyone you feel should be on the Board.  Considering the circumstances concerning the quilt show, we will fill the Chair position at a later date but will take nominations from the floor at the May meeting.  The vote for the slate of officers will be taken at the June meeting.

The nominating committee has recommended the following guild members:

  • President:  JoAnne Hochstein and Mary Rossetti
  • Membership VP:  Jeanne Hinrichs and Shelly Lounsbury
  • Communications VP:  Debra Oaks
  • Programs VP:  Kathy Tuttle and Betty Moulton
  • Quilt Show VP: To be filled
  • Secretary:  Patricia Loquet
  • Treasurer:  Kathy Vanacoro

As mentioned at the April meeting, we need to review our By-Laws.  Please see Mary Rossetti if you are interested in sitting on this committee.

See you at the May meeting,
JoAnne and Mary

President’s Message – 04/26

2026-04-01T08:35:39-04:00President's Message|

It was wonderful to see all of those who attended our return to in person meetings! I am also glad that we are finally experiencing some warmer temperatures and that we have made it through one of the worst winters that I can remember! My urge to spring clean has hit and I find myself sorting through fabric to donate to our “Ugly Fabric Auction”, reevaluate my works in progress and begin new projects! I must say the lecture and class by Gyleen Fitzgerald was one of the best I have attended and I have been happily making pineapple blocks with my never ending scrap bin!

This month’s activities will also provide much inspiration with our AQS bus trip, Ellen Blalock’s lecture and another Sit and Sew event! I look forward to seeing all of you and seeing our Challenge quilts!

Happy Spring!

President’s Message – 03/26

2026-03-01T09:42:22-05:00President's Message|

Just a week ago, we experienced the 2nd snowstorm of the season!  But rather than dwell on the inconveniences that they caused us all, I prefer to look ahead and focus on some of the wonderful choices our Activity and Programs committees have in store for us.  I am looking forward to the Pineapple class with Gyleen Fitzgerald, the Mariondale Retreat later this month and our AQS bus trip in April!

Please be sure to help out our new Hospitality Chair, Barbara Leader, by bringing a treat to share, especially if your name begins with L, M, N, O.

But most of all, I am looking forward to the return of our in person meetings on March 18th at Fox Lane High School!  It is wonderful to stay in touch during the coldest months of the winter via Zoom, but I miss seeing all of you in person and especially anticipate a great in-person show and tell!

President’s Message – 02/26

2026-02-01T09:12:57-05:00Member Showcase, President's Message|

With one giant snowfall down and the possibility of another this weekend, we may define this week in time with the question of “What project were you working on?” Rather than “Where were you in the storm(s) of 2026!

Our Activities and Program chairs have many offerings for us to take advantage of! I’m thankful for these stay at home days so I can catch up on a few Comfort Quilts, the 250th birthday of our country Challenge and start a few other quilts that have been on the back burner.

Thank you to those who attended our Zoom meeting in January and I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting in February which will also be a Zoom!

Stay Safe,
JoAnne Hochstein and Mary Rossetti, president@northernstarquilters.com

President’s Message – 01/26

2026-01-02T17:21:50-05:00Member Showcase, President's Message|

Warm wishes for a Happy, Healthy New Year!  I don’t know about you, but I always love this first month of the new year although it will take me a few weeks to remember to use 2026!

This also begins the first of two months of Zoom Meetings and Workshops which will provide us all with plenty of quilt making choices to fill our time without leaving the comfort of our own sewing rooms!   Please take a few minutes to check out our Zoom class offerings,  our Super Saturday choices,  and to work on your 2026 Challenge Quilt which commemorates the 250th anniversary of our country!   Nancy Mirman has already secured places that will display our challenge quilts for all to see!

Looking forward to seeing you on the next Zoom!

JoAnne Hochstein and Mary Rossetti, president@northernstarquilters.com
