Upcoming Landscape Workshop

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make our kickoff meeting a great success.  We had an enormous crowd of both old and new members and it was great to see everyone again. Since the quilt show we have gained about 30 new members with 4 joining at the meeting. This is very exciting.  Please reach out and make our new members feel welcome  and encourage them to join our Special lnterest Groups(SIGs) and other activities.

And mentioning our SIGS, Fran Jacobson has offered to lead a beginner quilting group so that our new quilters might have guidance and technical assistance.

Clara Nartey gave a wonderful presentation on creativity.  Her trunk show was truly exquisite.  We look forward to Rachel Derstine’s lecture  in October.  She will also be leading a workshop on landscapes.  There are still a few openings.

A big thank you to Lisa Alfonzetti of Pins and Needle for the pizza party and fantastic workshop on sewing machine maintenance that she held for our members just before the meeting.  Lisa’s shop is close by in Mount Kisco and she will be keeping it open so that members might shop before the meeting.

Also thanks to Meg Mooar for her wonderful Zoom pop-up presentation on Dyeing Fabrics with Natural Materials; the recording link was emailed afterwards in case you couldn’t attend.

Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday October 18th at Fox Lane.

Comfort Quilt Summer Project Display and Raffle

Same Jelly Roll – Different Quilt.  See how many different quilts have been made using these 33 strips!  Interested Comfort Quilters got matching jelly rolls  The quilts will be on display and one (or more depending on how many tickets sold) will be raffled off to help cover Comfort Quilt expenses.  Pick your favorite – winner’s choice of quilts.  Tickets $5 each, so come prepared!

    Donations of orphan blocks will be accepted through the October Guild meeting and can also be dropped off at Comfort Quilts.  Distribution of Orphan block kits will continue through December 2023.

Time is Running Out – Click to Renew Now!

Hi everyone,

The new guild year is off to a great start. Our membership stands at 181. There were 98 people present at the September meeting including four new members and two guests. Thirty-three people have joined the guild since the quilt show in May including our seven newest members who have been added to our rolls over the past two and a half weeks! Please join us in welcoming Patricia Gair of Hartsdale, Patricia Bradford of Nyack, Susan Farstrup of Sleepy Hollow, Riva Fisher of Tomkins Cove, NY, Damaris Scafidi of Riverside, CT, Liz Titus of Katonah and Valerie Zeller of Mohegan Lake. We would also like to welcome back returning member Carolyn Finn of Ossining.

If you would like your name/photo included in the hard copy of the 2023-2024 Membership Directory and in our email list, the renewal deadline is October 6th.  If you would like to add/change your photo or update your contact information, please email us at membership@northernstarquilters.com.  The directory will be ready in time for the October meeting. Don’t forget to stop by the membership table to pick up your copy!

Membership Directory Photo Gallery – We strongly encourage you to join the many members (50%) who have already submitted photos for the Membership Directory. It’s a great way for other members to connect your name with your face and for you to recognize them!  Any photo will be gladly welcomed whether it’s a selfie sent from your phone or a favorite picture from a special family event. Each photo is cropped to feature only your face.

REMEMBER – Our NSQG library catalog is now online including cover photos and brief descriptions!  You can view and search thru our collection at www.librarycat.org/lib/NSQGLibrary.  Reservations can be made through the system (up to two days prior to the monthly meeting) and you can pick up your books at the meeting.

2024 Raffle Quilt

Raffle ticket booklets for the beautiful bed sized quilt, Parfait, will be distributed at the November 15th  Guild Meeting, can be picked up at Comfort Quilts or be mailed.  Proceeds will benefit the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps of North Salem NY.

Upcoming Comfort Quilt Meetings

We meet Wednesdays from 9:30 to 1:30 at the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 14 Daniel Rd, North Salem, NY.  Infrequently, meetings need to be cancelled or rescheduled at the last minute.  If in doubt or coming for the first time, please check.  You can stay for all or part of the time. Bring your sewing machine, and a light lunch if desired.  Kits, fabric, and basic quilting tools are available for your use.

Comfort Quilts welcomes all interested NSQG members, so consider joining us!

Whether you’re a new or renewing member, check out our Buddy Program if you would like to be a ‘buddy’ or have a ‘buddy’ to show you the ropes around the guild.  Remember to pick up your name badge at the check-in table or make your own NSQG fabric name badge, pattern HERE.

If you know any member of the guild who is in need of a little ‘sunshine’ for illness, sympathy, or any other reason, please contact secretary@northernstarquilters.com so the guild can send a card.

Requests on how to make a donation to the guild to honor a member or support an activity are occasionally received. Such requests may now be accomplished via the DONATE box on our website home page, click on Make a Donation.
